Fred and Angie’s End to End Hike

Shortly after moving to Smiths Falls, we got ourselves a little dog and started walking the trail daily with the dog. Right away we started talking about how fun it would be to see the whole trail.

Eventually, we settled on a mid May time frame knowing that the bugs wouldn’t be too bad and the weather was likely to be reasonable. We solicited the help of my parents to drop us off and pick us up each day, as the options for overnight lodging is limited along the trail.

On the morning of our walk, we got dropped off in Strathcona. We walked 42 km to the Perth Road trail access. We stopped for lunch at the chip truck in the Foodland parking lot in Sydenham.

On the second day, we resumed our walk from Perth Road and walked what is undoubtedly the most beautiful section of the trail. After 35 km, we reach Harlem Road outside of Portland ON, which is where we ended our second day.

On the third and final day, we walked the rest of the trail home, through sections that we had walked hundreds of times before, but this time was quite different. Our feet were very sore and our legs were tired. My parents and our dog Kip joined us for the last few kilometers.

We really enjoyed this experience and we would encourage others to do it as well.

Here is a link to a couple posts that we made on Instagram.
