There is plenty of nature along the Cataraqui Trail, and sightings are common. Much of the trail is away from the bustle of villages and towns, and in those places, you’re likely to see little animals scurrying away from you, or birds flitting from branch to branch, just beyond reach.
Some of the animals spotted on or nearby the trail include:
White Tail Deer
- Beavers and Otters
- Racoons and Groundhogs
- Porcupines and Skunk
- Foxes and Coyotes
- Rabbits and Hare
- Squirrels (Gray, Red, and Black) and Chipmunk
- Snakes (mainly Garter but also Black Rat)
- Frogs and Toads
- Butterflies
- A variety of Birds
